Jade Utsukushi-sa began her life quietly amid the tranquil beauty of the Fringes, nestled between Gyr Abania and the verdant city-state of Gridania. Born long after her two elder siblings, Jade spent much of her earliest years accompanied by her beloved sister, who was nearly two decades older. Together, they often wandered far into the wilds, picking flowers and observing wildlife. However, at the tender age of three or four, Jade’s peaceful life was shattered when the Garlean Empire’s brutal invasion forced her family to flee. Her only vivid memory from that chaotic time is of her sister, tears streaming down her face, leaving her at Gridania’s gates before disappearing into the unknown, presumably in search of their lost family.

Life in Gridania as an orphan was challenging for Jade. Her shyness and quiet nature made it difficult to fit in among the other children. She found solace in studying white magic, becoming a novice white mage before destiny called upon her as the Warrior of Light. As her adventure unfolded and her confidence blossomed, Jade transitioned into the graceful, rhythmic discipline of a dancer, inspired by the charismatic Ranaa Mihgo during the Stormblood campaign.

Following the profound emotional and physical trials of Shadowbringers, Jade found comfort and love with G’raha Tia, whose warmth matched her empathetic heart. Together, they nurtured a growing family, welcoming two daughters-Leah, resembling Jade with her youthful spirit, and Rose, the younger, mirroring her father’s inquisitive charm. Family life brought her both joy and anxiety, further deepening her emotional connection to those she vowed to protect.

Yet, Jade’s life took a darker turn after the traumatic events of the Garlean campaign, as Zenos employed soul extraction technology against her. In a desperate attempt to protect her loved ones, Jade sought out the dangerous power of a reaper, a decision that horrified G’raha. The pact with her Voidsent had a profound, transformative effect-her once vibrant hair whitened entirely, and her eyes drained of their striking blue, turning a ghostly white.

The climax of her journey came in an intense, soul-shattering battle against Zenos. With her soul on the brink of oblivion after having killed him, Jade faced betrayal by her own Voidsent, which attempted to consume her in her vulnerable state. Summoning the last reserves of her resolve, fuelled by the stirring Dynamis surrounding them, Jade triumphed spectacularly, obliterating the creature entirely. This experience permanently infused her being with residual void energies, profoundly enhancing her affinity for black magic.

Determined to master this newfound power, Jade delved deeply into the study of black magic, reconnecting with its ancient roots as described by the Order of Nald’thal. As she refined her abilities, her natural essence gradually returned: her hair blossomed anew into a gentle milk-tea brown, and her eyes reclaimed their soft, calming blue hue.

Today, Jade continues her extraordinary tale, walking bravely between the shadows and the light, forever grateful for each precious moment of love, family, and thrilling adventure that life brings her way.
